Blizzard 2011

Wow! We really got hit with blowing and drifting snow. So often we hear those dire predictions of major snowfalls and blizzards, but then it will pass us by somehow. Not this time! It started yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. The difference between the arrival of the afternoon students and their departure was incredible! We got word mid-afternoon that classes would be cancelled for today and we left as soon as the students did. It was a relaxing evening, sitting in the basement, listening to the wind howl. This morning we had our work cut out for us. There were 3 and 4 feet drifts covering our sidewalks and driveway, with our cars buried. We worked on our project in shifts with plenty of rests and were successful. Wayne came home instead of heading back into the city so that has made it much easier getting this done.
I think one of the best parts of this blizzard is that none of my loved ones got stranded anywhere. The storm hit at a good time and so people were able to get where they needed to go before the roads became impassable. Not like the blizzard of 1967, when I got stranded at school and had to spend two nights at a friend's house. Not a good memory. My friend and her family were very petite and I was not. They tried to find some clothes for me to wear and I couldn't even fit into the sister's clothes...she was a senior in high school and I was in fifth grade! And they made me eat split pea soup. In the meantime, my family had a bunch of fun junior high school teachers staying at our house and they were all  having a big old party. Poor me.
We have also been lucky with this blizzard because we have not lost power (yet...dont want to jinx it!) We were prepared and had plenty of food and drink in the house and so it is not bad at all. May even have a day off again tomorrow because of wind chill issues. We shall see.
