Winter Wonderland Weekend

We waited long enough for winter and it finally arrived in full force on Friday. The snow started around 9am, but didn't really pick up until shortly afternoon. On Fridays, I travel between three schools and the roads were fine at 12:30 but miserable by 1:30. I was supposed to have a meeting at 3:15 which was going to necessitate a 30 minute backtrack. Luckily, the parent called and asked to reschedule, so I was able to head home by 3:00. Wayne, however, had a 4 hour drive home to the city on 290. It was slow going because of the steady stream of snow; we only had about 6 inches, but it came at just the right time to cause major headaches. Jack, Sally and I had a cozy Friday night at home. I made Marmar's chili (a version that is more like tomato soup with ground round and seasonings than traditional chili) and we watched the movie,  The Help. All three of us really liked it a ton. Sally and I had both read the book and Sally had already seen the movie once. You know it is an excellent movie when I stay awake through the whole thing on a Friday night!

On Saturday morning, the roads were clear and I headed up to Grand Beach MI with the Birthday Club girls. As always, we had a very fun and relaxing 24 hours. The only one missing from the group of twelve was Christy (she couldn't come because Matt's girlfriend's parents were coming in town to meet Christy and Steve). We had lunch at Casey's, shopped around and headed back to the house. Sheila, Teri, Jean, Carol and I went for a walk and got to stand by Lake Michigan as the sun set. Beautiful, with the sound of the waves in the background. After our return, we changed in to our comfy clothes and began the steady stream of appetizers, drinks and conversation. So chill. It is a special kind of therapy to be with them.
