Sacrifices

Yesterday, a grandson was born to one of my coworkers, Barb. Barb's daughter, Dana, lives in San Diego and was in labor with her firstborn. It was exciting to be on baby watch! At lunch, we were taking bets on the time of the baby's birth as well as the gender. I guessed birth time to be 4:06 pm (the time that Wayne was born!) and that the baby would be a girl. I was close. Miles (a boy!) was born at 3:37.
What I found so interesting is the fact that Dana was giving birth without her husband, Trey, present.
Dana and Trey met in the Navy. Dana just left active duty, but has been a ballistics expert. Trey is currently deployed on a ship in the Gulf and is commander of intelligence. I don't think that is the actual wording of his title/job, but it is a big deal. Trey and Dana were able to talk on the phone for a few minutes, but no facetime or videos. Trey will not see Miles until JUNE!!!! Holy cow!
This little family will not be together for another 7 months. And they are not complaining. At all. Just busy serving their country and trying to keep us all safe.
And Barb cannot go out to San Diego until winter break (obvi!) but she isn't complaining either.
Everyone is just grateful for the blessings of a new life.
