Hip Update, week 9, uh make that it almost week 12

Note: I started writing this on May 31 and got sidetracked!

It's been 9 weeks since I got my new hip. I can't believe the difference. Lately I am noticing all sorts of positive changes in range of motion and in function. And I don't have any pain in my left hip!

I finished up physical therapy a week ago, though I am going to go in for a check-in to make sure that all has continued to progress normally. When I went in for PT on May 19th, I could not yet put on my left shoe and sock without Jack's help or the help of adaptive equipment. When I left PT that day, I was able to! That is how amazing PT is. My lead PT, Phillip, is kind of a genius. I have to totally trust him. Sometimes PT is really painful, but it always results in a positive change in my body. I also have had to trust him when he says I can do something. I doubt myself, especially my coordination. Phillip is good at talking me through things. I have been blessed to have him on my team. Phillip has an amazing PT assistant, Karen, who is his perfect counterpoint. Karen is always calm, reassuring and a great conversationalist.  Another note: I had my exit PT appointment on June 13th. All good and all done!

It is now almost 12 weeks with my new hip. I continue to be beyond thrilled with how it turned out. It is still hard to believe how relatively easy the whole process was. A hip replacement sounds much scarier than it was. I have almost forgotten what the pain was like and how limited I had become in some areas. I give God all the glory and thank Him for medical personnel like Brett Levine and his team and Phillip and the nurses in the hospital and Nicki my home health PT. I am also very grateful to my friends and family who took such good care of me.
